Wild Ginger Hostel
After four days camping, hiking, and exploring I was desperately in need of a shower, so the Wild Ginger Hostel in Hilo became my second ever hostel visited in my life. The original plan was to simply pay for a shower and camp at a beach not far out of the city, but the $5 shower and the $20 campsite was costing more than if I just went ahead and paid the $22 for a bed at the Hostel. In addition, I had the afternoon of 120v power to catch up on work (and some play) as well as time to run back into town for a movie at the local theater. When I returned, my bunk awaited in the dorm-room that I shared with a few other travelers. I was long asleep before any of them came in, and long gone (following another shower) in the morning before any of them awoke.
Yah! I love that asleep before they got there and gone before they woke up. I did that once in a hostel in Australia when my van camper was being fixed. I camped ALL over anywhere from Adelaide to Noosa Heads with not ONE problem with ANYONE but I was always wary of robbers and felt chained to the vehicle. You cite a night camped in the car near a beach in a past article back and I really want to discuss that with you since that is my plan. I have van camped for more than a decade around California off and on btw.
