Why is Texas so damn big!

Seriously, I’m use to California big, but this is getting ridiculous. We have been in Texas for 4 days and we are still out in the middle of no-where-Texas. Even though this state ranks #2 in population (second only to California) almost no one lives in the Western 450 miles of it along I-10 between El Paso and San Antonio.

And this is where we are… Exit 420. So barren this portion of Texas that they do not even bother adding travel centers (aka Truck stops). It seems there are more roadkill carcasses than people per mile… I could be wrong, but not my much.

Granted we have not traveled very far on individual days but only because the task ahead was so huge… much like you do not want to clean the garage after 5 years of neglect. Sure it can be done in one day, but the price is just too high. Luckily, we should arrive in San Antonio on Monday, even at the snail’s pace that we have been crawling across the huge deserted landscape that is South-West Texas.
