Still a resident of Colorado

I know, I know. This is the 3rd year now that I’ve said I will setup residence in South Dakota and once again I took the easy way out. I blame it on the Datsun though, it isn’t my fault… I swear!

All the work that it takes to setup residence in SD has been weighing on me. And it isn’t cheap to make the move either. In my research I found out, that for me, it would require an additional $1000 – $1500 just to meet the legal requirements to transfer my concealed carry permit. South Dakota only issues permits to residents of the state of a minimum of 30-days, and that resident must have a physical address. That means I would have had to rent an apartment for at least 30-days before applying for (and paying for, again) the permit. I would then have to be there to pick up that permit when it is issued. That’s a lot of money and work for something I already have here in Colorado.

So, I put it all the the hands of the Datsun. If it passed the Colorado emissions test, then it was cheaper (and easier) to go ahead and pay the registration costs for the van, car, and trailer here in Colorado again – a total of just under $200 – and keep my Colorado CC permit.

And wouldn’t you know it, test passed! Another 30 minutes later and I was walking out of DMV with registration for all three in hand. You got to give it to Colorado in this one area if no other… I went through emissions testing, and a trip to DMV all in under one hour and without any hassle about missing forms or anything.

PS – This April marks 5 years living in Colorado. I guess I will see at least one more.
