September ramblings

As December – the start of new adventures – draws closer, the number of items on my todo list seem only to breed litters of offspring. In some masochistic way it is a good thing, as it is keeping me busy in an otherwise boring daily life living within city limits. I’ve been going through a never ending list of trinket fix-em-ups in the van, which seems to cure the urge to be out and exploring almost as much as actually getting out. I love to tinker just as much as I love to travel.

With Hawaii as my first destination I have grown increasingly concerned about my ability to go topless. If I am going to be on the beaches of Hawaii, I am going to strip off my shirt as often as possible and splash among the waves. The only problem is that I have not been as diligent with my workout routine this past month as I was earlier in the summer. This week that has changed, but I am paying the price, with extra taxes. Today, after four solid afternoons at the gym, I can not find a muscle that is not screaming out for a break. That is a good thing for my topless-ness later down the road, but not easily slept through each night.

My Mother, who I usually take out on a road trip once a year but failed to do it in 2014, has decided to go on a trip without me… well, kinda. This upcoming week she is making the drive from California to Colorado, with me as one of her planned stops. Mom has the need to travel and explore just as I do. It’s cute.

I have a milestone right around the corner which I am very excited about… more on that in a few days.

No one is going to make any type of judgement of your physique while at the beach in Hawaii. We come in all shapes and sizes and it will not matter, I promise you. I live on Maui. I understand you are doing the Big Island. If you have any military service you should consider the Kilauea Military Camp right inside the Volcano Nat’l Park. No beach there though and in Dec and Jan it will be cool (cold to us.) and rainy but there is a live volcano so what the heck. If you are coming to Maui let me know.

      I am my worst critic.

Since I am on the Big Island for 11 days, I may very well jump a plane to Maui for a few of those days. I hear there is some great hiking to do on that island.

Haleakala Crater for one hike. A drive to Hana to visit Oheo Gulch (Seven Pools) for another, both part of Haleakala Nat’l Park. A visit to Makena Beach and maybe a whale watch cruise. Honestly you could easily spend 11 days on the big island. It is a very big island.
