San Antonio River Walk
Today we drove into San Antonio to go downtown to the River Walk. While the Interstate part of the drive was easy enough, once we got down into the city itself it seemed that the city engineers were playing a practical joke. One sign would show the River Walk as straight ahead so we would go straight. Then another sign would so it to our left, so we would turn left only to see a sign showing the River walk behind us. This went on for 30 minutes before I decided to just park anywhere and find this elusive River Walk on foot… and guess what? There was a sign telling us to go *down* a flight of stairs!
It turns out, the River Walk is all over the downtown area, one level below the city streets. So, at any block within the city you can easily access it and walk along the river. Well duh! Why didn’t they just say that to begin with?
And wouldn’t you know it; the River Walk is a gem. Even though it is placed in the center of a city with a population of 1.3 million, it is calm and quiet with a Venice feel thanks to the boat-tours and arch bridges where shops and restaurants lined either side.
I had the best burger in my life thanks to Mom’s hankering for Tex-Mex… how we both ended up eating burgers I do not know, but neither of us regretted the decision.
