Rockport State Park
Rockport State Park is a 670-acre park in an ancient forest. The old growth was never logged, and the entire ecosystem remains in place, creating a rare, natural forest with a canopy so dense that minimal sunlight penetrates to the ground. – parks.wa.gov
Not originally on my itinerary, Rockport State Park was a nice last minute addition and gave me a good sneak peak at what to expect of the parks in the Pacific North West. I stayed only for the 15 minutes they allow you to park before having to pay the $10 day use fee. Most of the park was closed anyway, including the campground, due to downed trees and hazardous trail conditions from the precious night’s storm. Personally, I think it made it that much more spectacular… as there was no one else around.
