Potatoes & yams in a bean kettle

I decided to use my recently purchased Dutch Oven Bean Pot Kettle to pre-prepare the potatoes and yams I have been carrying around. See, normally I never get around to using these foods as they take too much time and effort to prepare, but winds of change blew past me today.

IMG_0559It was quite simple actually; I used the propane stove to preheat the kettle to over 350 degrees, then placed all the potatoes and yams in the pot on a tin pie pan. I then turned off the stove and replaced the heat source with four tea light candles. For the next four hours the potatoes and yams bake away at 300 degrees. By the time the sun set I had potatoes and yams ready for days to come.  Other than lighting the stove (and candles), no real effort was made on my part. I read a book, took a walk, and played fetch with Moose while the kettle did all the work for me.

IMG_0577The yams were super soft and delicious while the potatoes were a tad chewy deep inside, but that will suit them well when I re-cook them in the future meals.
