Operation Mini-van rescue
Sunday afternoon I flew out of Denver International into Phoenix International where I was picked up by my sister and bro-in-law. They dropped me off at the mini-van where we hugged and parted ways, and I began the 950 mile drive back into Colorado.
This evening at 5PM I arrived back in home-city only 26 hours after wheel’s up leaving the state. It was a monster drive with a few hour nap at a rest area in New Mexico. Originally I was thinking of seeing some of the attractions along the way, but with it being Memorial Day I figured most places would be closed for the holiday… so I just kept on motoring. About 17 hours of driving in total including stops for fuel and food (not including the nap).
Mission complete, the mini-van has been rescued and is back in Colorado. So now I have Big Blue Van, the Datsun, the Compact Jr trailer, and the Mini-van all in the same city. What the heck am I going to do with all these vehicles?
My all-time driving record was 26 hours from Chicago to Bay Area California. That is 2100 miles of driving at an average of 80.1 MPH including stops for fuel and food. Previous to that was 29 hours to make 1900 miles of driving from Iowa, through Yellowstone, and into California, including a 2 hour nap, fuel, and food stops. Both were back when I was much younger (and stupid). Now I prefer my 50-miles per day over these long hauls.
Cool to be mentioned…..:)
Ahoy! My big sis :)
