Nearly lost our van-mojo

It took driving all day, but we made it a little over half way down the Oregon coast. The mileage numbers are not impressive by any means, as we did stop for a late breakfast, an auto parts store for some tune-up items, and a few pee breaks along the way. The idea was to simply revisit one of the great boondocking we found not far out of Florence back in 2018. Problem is, our memories of the area was not detailed enough for us to chose an exact location. Kerri did keep some records of cell signal for some of the spots, and I had some memory of a few myself. Unfortunately, my memory was completely wrong, and her records didn’t pan out much either. The lack of cell signal kept us searching for the final couple hours of daylight, leading to a quite grumpy set of van-tramps.

Eventually we conceded that we would not be boondocking for our work week. It was too late in the day to keep driving up and down random dirt roads, so we settled on our fall back campground at Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park where we have stayed once before. It really hurts my ego to already be paying for a week in a campground, but at least the place is pretty much empty, and we do have electricity in our site – which means we can run our heater for a more comfortable stay. I even got to knock out that tune-up on Big Blue while here… so there is that.

During the first few days we are finding out about all the miscellaneous items we accidentally left behind on Meriwether. Some are pretty essential to our normal life routines, but I’m sort of excited about living without them for three months. Who knows, maybe we will find that we really do not need those particular items. Wouldn’t that be great?

Boondocking is good, we do it for weeks at a time but I have nothing against being plugged in.

Part of the reason we are doing these three months in the can is to reduce our monthly spending to make up for some of the crazy huge sailboat expenses, both past and future.

Cut yourselves some slack; you’ve been on a totally different vessel for many months! The transition back to van-life is bound to be a bit bumpy at first. I’m excited to read about this next season 😃
