My precious

My excitement has been building up over the last few weeks… knowing I get to hang out with my son, my cat, and my precious –  my 1978 Datsun 280z. I checked in on the car the first day I got back into Colorado, making sure it started up… success! Yesterday I wanted to pull it out of storage to blow the soot out of her pipes and give her a good washing, but time ran out on me.

Today, my attention has been focused solely on the Datsun. A good washing and a quick country-road drive brought a smile to my face and a feeling I have missed – Love. It is one of the few inanimate objects in my life that I can say I would have a hard time living without. Even though I am unable to drive the car half the year, every year, due to weather (you simply do not drive this car in the snow or rain) I know she is there waiting for me. I’d hate to think of a time that she may not be there for me.

Yes, I consider the Datsun a ‘female’. She has a sleek and curvy figure (unlike today’s boxy vehicles), purrs when you buy her shiny things, and makes sure you know it if you fail too. She is just the perfect age (in her mid-30’s now) and gets glances from all the guys we pass by. I admit I haven’t treated her as well as I should have in the past few years. I’ve invested more money into the van then the Datsun in the past 3 years, but she still hasn’t failed me. Started right up and took me out for the day with no complaints… I’m in love (sigh)
