My 1-mile marathon… take 5
December of 2011, I talked about how I been working on running a mile reliably again… just like when I was a teen. By February I was doing 2 miles and very pleased to do that. Since then I have continued to regularly run 2 miles and more during my work-outs 4 days a week. A couple weeks back I, by sheer chance, ran 2.75 miles in an attempt to run for 30-minutes straight. It worked, but I did pay the price with a sore right knee for a few days after and now every time I run or hike. It has gotten better, so much so that today during my standard 2.25 mile warmup, I decided to get to beat the old record and go for 3 full miles.
I got to 3 miles after 35 minutes and still felt very fresh so I decided to go for the 45 minute mark. Once I got there I was into my 4th mile so I kept the treadmill going at 5.6 MPH which got me to the 5 mile mark at 59:50… I kept going to achieve a full hour even with just a tick more than 5 miles run.
I actually dislike running… but I dislike the elliptical and bicycle machines event more even though I started my cardio workout on those 3 years ago. Now I never use them and use the treadmill exclusively for my cardio; a 30-35 minute run before 45 minutes of weight training (4 times a week) and now I will add the 60 minutes running on the days I do not do any weight training (another 2 times a week).
