Mount Rainer Ntnl Park – Box Canyon
The Box Canyon Loop is only a half-mile paved trail. In terms of difficulty, it does not go far on the scale. But in terms of concentrated splendor, it jumps right up there.
The trail not only crosses a deep river gorge but follows a glacier’s path. Along the trail is evidence of the ancient glacier movement over the bedrock. Mid way along the trail is the bridge that crosses the gorge 118 feet above the water. The rock slab walls of the gorge have been polished by sediment-rich water and now appear as smooth as moist leather than rock. Thanks to the abundant water flowing down the mountain the plant bloom to an extra special level.
