Lowell Observatory
Lowell Observatory is an astronomical observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. Lowell Observatory was established in 1894, placing it among the oldest observatories in the United States, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965. In 2011, the Observatory was named one of “The World’s 100 Most Important Places” by TIME.
Since I was passing through the Flagstaff area I made sure to stop in to see the telescopes and such. Since I was there mid-day, I was only really able to view the sun (as opposed to the stars, at night) through a special telescope, but it was pretty amazing. I was even able to see the solar flares erupting from the sun in huge arches. Cool beans!
I made sure to walk the grounds to check out the telescopes from outside and take the 3D-tour of images taken by the telescopes. It all makes you feel so small, but amazing at the same time.
