Liberty Lake Regional Park

Since I couldn’t describe it any better than the pro’s…

One of the largest county parks in the State of Washington, Liberty Lake Regional Park altogether contains over 3,000 acres wetlands, lakeshore, montane forest, irrigated turf, conservation areas, and an ORV trails area.  The park provides a designated swimming beach, 200 parking spaces, play equipment, shelters, a BBQ area, campground and seven miles of trail.” – spokanecounty.org

Liberty Creek

Liberty Lake Regional Park interested me to get some much needed exercise after multiple days of sitting around in Post Falls, ID waiting for the concert. I had planned to hike, just not sure where to or how long I would. Luckily, I didn’t have to think much about it, as the trailhead lead out only one way from where I was allowed to park. Not many options there either, since the majority of the park entrances were closed for the off-season. Having no choices sure make the decisions easier.

Cedar Grove

So I hiked out past the campgrounds (which were closed) and followed the trail with a gentle climb for 2.9 miles to Liberty Creek Cedar Grove. Liberty Creek kept me company the entire way, sometimes staying beside me and sometimes a bit more playful making me hop over it to stay on the trail. The close knit family of trees held back any breeze that Mother N’ would attempt to provide.

Liberty Lake. My van is parked down there.

I left the creek behind as I started a steep climb for another mile in search of Liberty Falls. The falls were nothing more than a trickle of water falling down a few rocks. It was not spectacular by any means, but the cool air that it brought through the forest was a welcome sensation. Nearly 4 miles out from the van, I turned back to meetup with the creek to start my long journey back to the parking lot.

Over the course of the 3 hours of hiking, I listened to an audio book on my MP3 player, which sure made the time skip right on by.
