Lazy Lizard Hostel

Lazy Lizard1Now, I have never used the services of a Hostel before, and if it were not for Walter the German hitchhiker asking me to drop him off here back in 2011, I’d have never thought about a Hostel as an option. Sure you can rent a cabin, or a room, or sleep in the dorm-style sleeping area, each with it’s own low price compared to Hotels, but prior to arriving in the Moab area I called the Lazy Lizard Hostel to see if I could camp in my van in their lot,  and they were just fine with that. I also had full use of the kitchen, showers, electricity, and wifi (inside) all for $7.63 a night. Sure, I was bringing my own bed to a ‘hotel’, but to have a place to park where you will not be bothered by the Sheriff (and a shower to boot) is worth $7.63 a night.

Lazy Lizard2Surely the Lazy Lizard is not a 5-star hotel. Heck, it isn’t even equal to a 1-star hotel! The place is beat up, run down, dirty, moldy, filthy… and just so damn cool because of it. You know that the placed has been used by real traveling people. People who you can walk right up to and strike up a conversation about big beards, days without showering, hitch hiking, and just about anything else that has to do with low funded traveling and living. And the showers… well, if you can get past the looks, the water was warm and refreshing, and that is all I ask for $7 a night.

I have nothing negative to say about the Lazy Lizard. It is unique, cheap, functional, and just a cool place to have visited for two nights, and I will visit again when the time comes.
