Kona Coffee Living History Farm
I was so excited to have the opportunity to visit the Kona Coffee Living History Farm that it was one of the few things planned on this trip. So, when my route took me to the South from Kona I made sure to drop in (originally I passed right by, had to make a U-turn, and then dropped in).
A Japanese family lived here all the way into the mid-90’s (even through WW2) where they grew coffee and lived off the land. Water was gathered from the ever constant rain and food was grown on-site. Children were raised, schooled, and worked the farm. It happens to be the “only living history coffee farm in the nation”
I was offered – and accepted – some free coffee as I browsed the map. I was given a tour of the farm house by a slender and softly spoken Japanese woman, not much older than myself, who either played the part well or still lived today with all the honor and grace of the ancient Japanese ways. I couldn’t help but be smitten by her a little. Hai!
