Just waiting around?
I have a concert that I want to go to in Post Falls Idaho on the 21st, so I have had to decide on getting to Post Falls 5 days ahead of the concert, or hang out here in Whitefish Montana for a few days. My Mother says to me last night, “it sure seems boring… just waiting around all week“. Yes, waiting around is not as exciting as hiking up mountains or exploring historical sights, but it is part of life. At least I have power and water here as well as a gym and shower 2 blocks away. And the folks here at the Moose Lodge have been very nice company.
So here I sit waiting, but surely not bored. I have work to do and the more I can knock out this week, the less I have to do next week leaving me more time to adventure. I am not letting this down time go to waste.
I also had repairs to do on the van; One of my brand new solar panels died on me before I started my trip last month. I found out about it while I was in Grand Teton so had to suffer through a few weeks of half-power. When I got up here to Whitefish I called the manufacturer and they sent me out the diodes which I installed myself (easy and no cost fix). Then I find that my charge controller decided to stop ‘controlling’ the current coming in, instead choosing to over-charge my batteries (which could lead to an explosion). I ordered a new controller and replaced it as well.
What I’m getting at is that even when I am “bored” I have things that I must do… chores… work… life. Living on the road – be in in a van, trailer, or diesel pusher RV – doesn’t mean I get to pass on doing those daily life things that we all did/do when living in a conventional house/apartment. Sometimes, that includes waiting around or doing ‘less exciting stuff’ that needs to get done to continue your chosen lifestyle.
Luckily, I have all of my belongings with me. I am deprived of nothing, so I do not mind sitting still for short periods of time, although I am anxious to get moving again… Thursday.
