Homesick in Prescott Ntnl Forest
Last night I pulled off the Interstate just before reaching Camp Verde, AZ. I really just did not want to spend a night in civilization, so took an exit (exit 278) in the middle of the National Forest to park off a dirt road somewhere.
After about 1 mile, and a pretty sketchy dirt road towards the end, I found a nice spot to hang my hat for the night. This location was obviously used as a camp site in the past, but not for some time. I’m going to explore around a bit this morning to see what may interest me.
I thought I may spend the weekend here, but ironically I went to bed last night thinking I may head into Cottonwood this afternoon as I feel too alone out here. I know right… this is exactly what I am looking for, but I’ve been feeling homesick the past day or two.
Edit – I realized I wasn’t actually feeling homesick, but restless. I had been hunkered down in my van for 4-5 days, doing little to nothing exciting. I needed to get out and do something or see something. So, I left the forest and headed towards the nearest attraction. I figure I’d rather spend my weekend checking out some of the local attractions then hunkered in my van. So I’m out and about.
I was feeling bad that you we’re homesick but since your just feeling restless I feel much better.
South of Cottonwood, on 260 at Thousand Trails Road, on E/NE side, there is BLM land for camping. It’s the first left off Thousand Trails Rd. Don’t go to the RV park.
We’ve stayed there. You can go as far as the river, but, probably, not with the trailer. Google Maps lat/lon: 34.732222,-112.018611

Thanks Pat, I did venture down there but lost my Internet signal pretty quickly so turned around and headed back into Cottonwood for the weekend.
