Hawaii-bound

For the past few years I have wanted to fly out to Hawaii during my winter travels. I almost did it two years back with a plan to hike the 170 or so miles around the big island with a gal from Germany. I do not recall what stopped me from going (other than the reality of hiking 170+ miles) but I have felt regret ever since.

This year I did it; I bought the tickets to fly to the Big Island this December just before the Xmas tourist season begins. This will be my first trip to Hawaii, lasting for 10 full days. I did not bother booking any hotels as I plan to be living right out of the rental car and a tent (I gave up on the hiking idea). As often as possible I will be camping on the beaches but the rental car will give me a place to stay dry during the rain and keep my netbook, cell phone, and camera charged up. I still plan to do a lot of hiking, snorkeling, whale watching, etc.
