Grand Teton National Park
Well, day #1 is gone and Day #2 is nearing an end.
The first day was exclusively driving, from Colorado into and through Wyoming, about 9 hours in total. We got to within an hour of Grand Teton Ntnl Park before stopping on the side of the road. We all jumped into the van for 6 hours of shut-eye before an early rise to get into the park and get a camp sight.
After reviewing the 3 camp areas we chose one and were setup by 10am, ate a quick lunch and took off on the bikes to scout Visitors area, stores, and the picinic areas at the main lake; Jackson Lake.
We eventually settled upon a 4 mile hike up and around a few lakes; Swan Lake and Heron pond. Both were very scenic with the backdrop of the Tetons and abundant lillies. We crossed paths with few pelicans, geese, a single elk, and our fair share of angry squirells… no bears yet.
On the next day we finished up Grand Teton Ntnl Park with a hike around Jenny Lake to see the Hidden Falls (5 miles round trip). The trail varied from stream-side walk, to a recently burnt down forest, to a heavy brush ‘jungle’ before leading up the side of the mountain to the falls. Timmy and I nearly took the Ferry ride back, but just before boarding we realized that it would drop us on the other side of the lake, but futher away from where we parked then if we just hiked back ourselves… so we did, while Conor embarked on his 15 mile journey, arriving back to the van 3 hours after we did.
As we returned to the camp site, the thunder storms rolled in and the remainder of the evening (and night) was spent under repeated rain showers. Tomorrow we head into Yellowstone National Park…
