Getting to Hawaii
December 1st I spent the entire day at airports and on two flights. Leaving from Oakland, CA in the early afternoon meant getting to the airport in the late morning, just in time to realize I left my laptop power cord behind. It started on it’s way to the island before I did. My Sister promptly shipped it to arrive in Hawaii on December 3rd which meant I had to stretch my battery to last until mid-day on the 3rd (hence the silence).
I had intended to fly into L.A. where I intentionally scheduled a 5 hour layover to meet up with a friend from my teenage years that I had not seen since 2004. Delta Airlines, in their infinite wisdom, changed which flight I was on so I only had a 90 minute layover. I’m sure they thought, “hey, this will be better for him and he will appreciate it” but they were wrong.
I arrived at Kona International Airport at 8:30pm local time (11:30 PM my-time) where I picked up my rental car and drove the 4 miles to my couch-host who was nice enough to offer me his couch for the first few days of my trip (and mail box to ship my power cord).
It was not until the next morning, the 2nd of December, that I finally got to see Hawaii for my first time. My expectations were instantly crushed… (more to come)
Ha! Nothing like a teaser ending………… :)
Oh no! I hope things got better.
