Getting my papers in order
With my departure date quickly approaching (whoo!) I am have begun working on all the paperwork to stay out of Colorado for 12-18 months.
My passport was due to expire in December and with another trip to Mexico over the winter along with the drive through Canada to get to Alaska next summer, it was necessary to get the renewal paperwork in. “6 weeks (or more) to process” is the name of the game.
And both vehicles have the annual registration due this month. Luckily it can be done online, in person, or by mail. Unfortunate for me, I am not in South Dakota right now, and the online registration requires a South Dakota drivers license number which I do not yet have. Good old fashion snail mail is the way it will go this year, with a “2 weeks to process” timeline.
My final two pieces of paperwork can not be secured until later in the year, after leaving Colorado. My South Dakota drivers license and conceal carry permit must be done in person, in state. While the license can be scored in a single visit to a DMV in South Dakota, the carry permit requires a stay of 30-days in state before I can apply. By that time, snow will be a real threat.
