Fall colors in Rocky Mtn Ntnl Park

Last year Conor and I went into the National Park for a hike, but we did so a few weeks too early and did not get to see all the aspen’s turning. This year we made it at the right time and enjoyed a 6 mile hike through the park with peak fall-colors.

The day started gloomy and under cover of high clouds. Temperature was perfect for hiking (in the 50’s) with a 40% chance of rain in the afternoon which arrived early and while we were still 2 miles out from the trail head. Not to worry though as I am always prepared with plastic poncho in my hiking bag. I have carried it with me for years and this was the first time I had to use it. It rained the final hour of our 3 hour hike. While cold and slightly wet, it actually made the hike that much more… err, adventurous would be the better word. I’d have hated to have to spend the night at a camp after so being able to get into a car and drive down the mountain and into the sun made it all worth while.
