Desert shindig

Two and a half days of driving and I have arrived at my Southern California layover in (or just outside of) Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. This stop was not initially on my itinerary but after seeing the Malimish family was hanging out in the area I thought I would pop in to catch up on their travels since our last rendezvous in Jan of 2014.

I had only a general idea of where they may be camping, and relied on the shine of their airstream with a desert backdrop to guide me in on final approach, but I got more than I bargained for; a second sunrise with more than a half dozen polished Airstreams beckoning my off the asphalt and down a dirt road. Not 100 yards off the road I ran into the familiar truck and trailer of Aluminarium (a bonus visit). Another quarter mile further down the road – at the Airstream camp – was a hodgepodge of others that I have met over the past few years with a sprinkling of new folks. Todd & Russ in the Wanderlodge, Kerri of asolojourner, Mike and Kelly of Follow the Tumbleweed, and others I have yet to catalog into my overwhelmed cranium. Basically, it’s a surprise desert shindig with heaping portions of socializing, story telling, and – of course – drinking.

I will be sure to snap the shutter a few times before I leave the party in a few days. For now, accept this as a consolation prize…
