Lake Mead – Redstone Dune Trail

On the final day of my time at Lake Mead I visited the Redstone Dune Picnic area, which also has a short trail. The red sandstone rock formations were the star of the show, of course. T’was a short hike, but it tired Moose out enough to warrant a nap.

Buckeye Hills Regional Park

This past week I have been camped at Buckeye Hills Regional Park (map below). It is one of my “go to” places to boondock when I’m in western Arizona. I came here for my first time last year and enjoyed having the 4000+ acres all to myself. This time around,...

Red Knolls Amphitheater

When I Google it, nothing comes up other than some maps (see below for map) … which is how I found it to begin with; GMap4 Topo as I was scanning my route of the next few days. Since it sits only 1 mile off the highway, down a semi-rough...

Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area

Many people visit Whitewater Draw each winter to experience the memorable sights and sounds of more than 20,000 sandhill cranes. Sherman Yard

With the sun finally making an appearance this morning I took a moment to snap a few photos of the scenery out my front windshield; my host’s front yard (the Sherman’s). This quaint front yard, not much bigger than my van, packs a big visual punch. Not only is it...

USS Turner Joy

Turner Joy’s distinctive service included a double-duty role as flagship for Destroyer Squadron 13 and Destroyer Division 131 with several tours in the Pacific. She also stood air-sea rescue duty near the Marianas Islands for President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s visit to several Asian nations. In terms of history, this vessel...

Founded in 1982 the group provides educational programs on wolves, engages in wolf-related activism, and operates a sanctuary that houses primarily captive-born wolves. I learned about...

Gallagher Flat Wildlife Rec Area

It is a risk of van-dwelling; pulling into your planned overnight stop only to see signs posted prohibiting overnight parking. That is what happened when I pulled into the Walmart just outside of Chelan, Washington. I’m not about to break the city ordinance, so I set out to find another...
