Biking Picture Rock Trail

101_9051I have hiked the Picture Rock trail a couple times, and each time I had noticed how great of a Mountain Biking trail it would be. Sunday, I finally tackled it on a bike and it was a fantastic little trail. It is gently uphill for 3 miles to an old homestead out in the forest where a few trinkets are still there to remind you that people once lived our there. But, today I was not sight seeing, but just trying to survive the climb up. Once there I took time to consume a Cliff bar and rest in the shade before heading back to the van… three miles away, and all down hill. The trail was much more enjoyable as I coast down at speed, winding just enough through the rocks and trees to keep me on your toes (and out of my seat).

101_9045On the weekend this trail is very busy with dozens of other riders and hikers, and even a group of horseback riders, so there was a lot of time spent slowing and moving over to share the trail. On the way up those breaks help me take small rests, but on the way down you kind of want the trail all to yourself. Still, it was a blast coming back down no matter the amount of traffic.

This is just one of many local trails I plan to mountain bike before leaving the Colorado area.
