Back in Colorado

I arrived back in Colorado last night, just before 8pm by way if Interstate 70 from Utah. It was not my original plan, to drive into the state yesterday, but as I am getting accustomed too, my plans are fluid… constantly changing and in motion. I am learning to roll with them, and not worry about how they will effect my week’s plan.

So, by 8pm I was stopped and camped for the night. I made it all the way to exit 2 where I saw a brown sign to investigate and pulled off the Interstate. Rabbit Valley, a small public land area that allows free camping, off-roading, and mountain biking too and along the Colorado River. I thought I might take the bike out in the morning, but I woke to 25 degrees inside the van (which meant it was in the teens outside) and my propane heater decided not to fire up… so I did.

By 8am I had traveled the remaining 24 miles to Grand Junction where I decided to stop in the local Walmart for two items; Propane for my stove, and toilet chem for me… well, toilet. That was all I needed. I did happen upon a Cabella’s where I stopped in to see if I can buy some more ammo, but the shelves were just about empty.

The Cabella’s was part of a mall, both indoor and outside. Upon looking up the mall on google, I found a few stores that may come in handy for some things I have been wanting for some time. I do not normally go to any malls, but today I did… even at the expense of playing hooky from work for an hour. I walked away with a much needed haircut and a nice blazer from JC Penny’s for less than what I had planned. I did find some boots too (also on my want-list) but could not justify spending the $150 just yet. Maybe next month.

Late in the afternoon I drove the 50 miles to Parachute, which is my normal stop-over before making the long drive over the Rocky’s. The rest area here offers the typical bathrooms, but I am more interested in the free Wifi to catchup on some TV shows online. I also picked up some Chinese food togo to celebrate my return to my home-state… although I will be ditching Colorado as my home state soon enough… more on that later.

In the morning I will have waited out the most recent weather front and will be clear to drive over the mountains.
