A weekend at the slabs
Pat & Nancy told me about this great place to boondock (I will not mark this one as it their own secret hideaway) and had planned to stay only Friday night, but I was so comfortable that I stuck around for the entire weekend. With my long work days on Saturday and Sunday it was nice to pull out all the solar panels to have more than enough power for the laptop to be powered up all day. I also got to do some routine things on the van and trailer too, things it would be uncool to do in a Walmart parking lot… like whipping out all the solar panels.
Speaking of solar panels. There has been a nice breeze here and some of my panels fell over. They hit nothing, but the impact to the ground caused the glass to crack on both. i checked the voltage on both and they are both down from a non-broken panel but still bring in some juice. A frustrating and costly lesson to learn.
The ice in the ice chest did melt by Saturday morning so I had to power on the fridge. Normally I wouldn’t do this when on solar power only, but as long as I can get all panels out there in the sun it seems to be just fine along with my laptop use. I may try to keep the fridge on while I am doing my daily travels too. The engine will charge the house batteries, so maybe the little driving I do each day will be enough? We will see.
