A random meeting with Troy

After yesterday’s long mountain biking adventure, I knew I would not be doing much today. Some muscles hurt that have never hurt before and other hurt that would make it extremely uncomfortable to do anything physical anyway… a bike’s seat is a torture device I tell ya!

With another day of recouping on the schedule I made my 50 mile drive in the late morning to Aqua Fria National Monument, where I visited last month on my way North out of Phoenix. This was simply a place that I knew I could hang out for the day (and night) without any hassle and fit perfectly into my 50-mile drive. After a few hours of solar panel bathing and working, a van pulled up and parked behind me. I hadn’t thought anything of it until I saw the guy ride off on his mountain bike. It was only then that I looked and noticed the graphics on the side of the van, “Over the Edge Sports” and the van had Colorado plates to boot. Clearly this was a company that offered guided mountain biking adventures and after my previous day it struck a cord with me.

Eventually, the guy returned to his van and instead of packing up and driving off like most people, he pulled out a fold up chair and was just relaxing in what was left of the late day sunlight. I decided to be social (not my strong point) and introduced myself. It turns out that this guy, Troy, consults with Over the Edge Sports, including regular trips to the Australian branch. He is here in Arizona for the winter just waiting out the snow in Colorado, like myself (and many others of course) and happened upon Aqua Fria by chance and decided to take a ride.

We talked for an hour or so about biking, beer, trails, and the general downfall of human-kind, and parted ways after exchanging contact information. We hope to be able to meet up again on my way back into Colorado where I will be driving right past his shop in Fruita, CO. Ironic how things work out huh?
