A quick getaway to the Rocky’s

I have been wondering if I made the right choice; choosing some extra cash over my freedom for the summer. It certainly is not feeling like the right choice, but I can’t fight it that the extra cash has been coming in handy. The biggest problem is the lack of time to get away from my nemesis – civilization.

IMG_2431To remedy that I unhooked the van, opened my sails, and allowed the wind to blow me up the Rocky’s where I would be sufficiently uncivilized for a the few days I get between work. To avoid a shock to the system already re-accustomed to 120v power and showers, I went for a National Forest campground; Peaceful Valley (where I also happen to get a Verizon signal).

IMG_2319To my dismay, the place was full but for a single tent-camping spot. I still paid my $19 to park on asphalt 40 feet from my official camping sight. I then offered the tent-camping sight to the next car of tent-campers that arrived since I was not going to be using it.

IMG_2326Moose and I immediately set out on a short hike up the Middle Saint Vrain Creek trail to find a small meadow to kick our legs out form underneath us and soak in the uncivilized sounds and smells nature. The tension must have been visible as it floated away through my shoulders and neck. *This* is where I need to be high up in the mountains, not earning a few extra dollars at the bottom of them.

IMG_2432We hiked a few more miles later in the evening returning moments before a great thunderstorm slapped and clapped it’s way overhead, leaving behind a freshly washed forest.  As the sun set, so did our eye lids for one of the most restful nights I have had in some time.

I have missed my Rocky Mountains…
