Glacier Ntnl Park – A chance meeting & two waterfalls

St Mary Falls

St Mary Falls

I took the free shuttle to Logan Pass Visitor’s Center at the top of Glacier National Park. As I was studying the map trying to find something to do, a most amazing thing happened; Earlier in the day I had canceled on plans to go on a hike with Leigh and Brian, of the Aluminarium blog, yet here Leigh stands right in front of me. By sheer chance we happened to run into each other in the middle of the park surrounded by hundreds of other people. Brian was off parking the truck… and monumental task with the crowds. Leigh invited me to go with them to hike out to St Mary Falls, and after a short drive and hunt for parking (again), we were on the trail.

The trail itself was of no consequence; short enough so that none of it sticks out in memory as I write this. Leigh, Brian and I got to know a little about each other as we hiked out to St Mary Falls. Here we stopped to each a modest lunch while watching the teal-blue water cascade down the rocks, showering us with a mist and curing the heat of the trail within seconds. Further down the trail we came upon Virginia Falls, which appears to have been taken straight out of a Disney story-book. The falls remind of the enormous train of a princesses wedding dress. Describing it as picturesque is being modest.
